Laura Steele: I am currently working on a Master of Arts in Teaching at Westminster College, and when I finish my program I intend to teach history and geography at the middle school/junior high level. I bring to the classroom my passion for learning and teaching, my odd sense of humor, and (in part because of an LD) my empathy for students who struggle. I have been a guest (substitute) teacher in Granite School District since 2004, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I look forward to having my own classroom, which will allow me the freedom to teach history and geography in a constructivist way that incorporates the multiple intelligences. Both history and geography are not only relevant but also fascinating, and I look forward to the challenge of teaching these subjects in ways that emphasize their relevance and the common threads of human experience.
